While the arts sector is increasingly contributing to raising awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis, fossil fuel companies are trying to maintain the legitimacy of their climate-damaging busniess model precisely through cultural sponsorship. A significant number of cultural institutions still work with sponsors & partners who do not operate in line with the Paris climate goals.
That's why Reclame Fossielvrij and Fossielvrij NL launched the Declaration for Fossil Free Sponsorship in June 2023. Many big cultural institutions like Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Oerol Festival and Frascati have already signed.
