What: Passed a motion to ban outdoor commercial advertising

Outdoor commercial advertising will disappear in the city of Bern. The city's legislature passed a motion to this effect by 30 votes to 29 on the 1st of February, 2024.

"In times of climate crisis, consumption should not be encouraged even more actively", said Jelena Filipovic (Green Alliance) on behalf of the proposers. Votes in favour came from the Alternative Left, Green Alliance and Socialist Youth amongst others. Other cities have set an example, such as Grenoble (France).

The city's executive opposed the motion, however the motion was narrowly accepted as the vast majority of the Socialist Party voted in favour.
