Great news from Italy: Florence could become the first Italian city with a ban on fossil advertising!
The motion was approved by the Economic Development Committee at Palazzo Vecchio and now goes to the City Council.

Sbarbaro defended the motion in a committee meeting (video): "We are very happy that the committee voted in favor of the fossil ad ban and gave a positive opinion. Now it's time to move forward!" City councilor Giovanni Graziani: "In our motion, there is no condemnation or judgement on the choices each person can make, but the proposal that Florence can become the first Italian city to reduce the excessive exposure to fossil fuels we are all exposed to."

Background
On June 3, 2025, Florence city council’s committee No. 2 on “Economic Development” will discuss motion No. 2025/00610, submitted by a group of city councillors. The motion has been created by a group of city councilors, and suggest the adoption of restrictions or bans on advertising related to fossil fuels. The committee will meet to examine the proposal and potentially issue a formal opinion.
The Italian association Cittadini Sostenibili (https://cittadinisostenibili.it/) has been invited to take part in the meeting to share its experience and present the international campaign calling for a ban on fossil fuel advertising.
This committee meeting is a preliminary step that could lead to a future discussion of the motion by the full City Council, if the committee issues a favorable opinion.
