Description

To tackle the climate emergency, Fossil Free Politics works on cutting fossil fuel interests out of our politics, similar to existing restrictions on the tobacco industry. This is necessary, because in Europe, climate and energy policy continues to be heavily influenced by fossil fuel companies, and their lobbyists. Revolving doors, sponsored events, privileged access to decision makers, industry dominated advisory groups and other mechanisms continue to ensure a major role for the fossil fuel industry.

Additionally, fossil fuel lobbyists have successfully tried for decades to deny science, and delay, weaken, and sabotage climate action.

Fossil Free Politics has four demands:

  1. End fossil fuel industry access to decision-making
  2. Avoid conflicts of interest for decision makers
  3. End preferential treatment of the fossil fuel industry
  4. Reject partnerships with the fossil fuel industry

This campaign is led by Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO), Food and Water Action Europe (FWAE), Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE), Global Witness and Greenpeace EU. Fossil Free Politics has a network of 200 organisations across Europe.
