Description
Who: Dutch airline KLM
Where: Advertising watchdog, the Netherlands (Reclame Code Commissie)
What: Biofuel ads rules misleading
When: July 2020
KLM has misleadingly advertised how the company uses biofuel. This was decided by the Advertising Code Committee on Monday. KLM advertises a lot about sustainability, while in reality only 0.18 per cent of its entire fleet flies on biofuel. In a non-binding ruling, the commission recommended that the airline advertises differently.
Eric Stam, complainant: "This is good news! Not only because it recognises the deception, but also that press releases, visual displays on aircraft and even 'purely informative displays' are labelled as advertising."
