In this webinar, assistant professor Clemens Kaupa (VU Amsterdam) discusses how a ban on fossil ads is possible from an EU legal perspective. He discusses:
- Existing rules: are fossil ads already illegal?
- Legality of national/local fossil ad bans under European law
- Does EU procurement law pose a problem for fossil ad bans?
A fossil ad ban is very much needed to curb emissions and stop misleading. This webinar shows that EU laws do not prohibit such bans on a local or national level. On the contrary: mr. Kaupa argues that a fossil ad ban does not deviate from existing laws, but clarifies them. Using the example of the tobacco ad ban, mr. Kaupa sketches the path towards a fossil ad ban.
