    Marketplace Advocacy by the US Fossil Fuel Industries: Issues of Representation and Environmental Discourse

    Advertising by fossil multinationals is no ordinary advertising. This advertising ('marketplace advocacy') serves to protect the oil and gas market by:

    1. maintain public support
    2. promote policies that are favourable to the fossil industry, for example: a reluctant government.

    Marketplace advocacy often appeals to national values ​​(for example, education) and “shifts public dialogue from climate change and potential environmental policies to how these policies would harm industry and adversely affect the average American citizen.”
