Description
The Paris Council has requested the French government to ban advertisements and marketing campaigns promoting large and heavy vehicles of the SUV category.
The request is part of a bigger proposal to forbid the use of SUV in urban environments, in an attempt to combat pollution, enhance road safety, and create a more sustainable urban environment. Currently, roughly a quarter of Parisian cars falls into the SUV category, leading to increased risk of fatal accidents due to their size and weight, especially in a dense city such as Paris. In an attempt to make the city safer, Paris' socialist city administration has been striving to prioritise pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. Senator Ian Brossat has also introduced a proposal in the French Senate to grant local authorities the power to ban vehicles weighing over 1.8 tonnes from city streets.
