Description

We need a new normal. A new normal in which the sustainable choice is simply the only logical, ethical, affordable and available choice. Only then can we limit warming to 1.5C according to scientists.

Such a new sustainable normal may be hard to imagine now - still full in the fossil era - but once it was unimaginable that women would have the right to vote. Or that smoking was no longer cool, but anti-social. When norms and behaviour change so radically en masse, it is called a social tipping point.

Social tipping point measures

With relatively simple and inexpensive measures, the new government can lay a solid foundation for the transition:

  • End fossil subsidies
  • Ban fossil advertisements
  • Mandatory climate education in schools and climate labels on products
  • Mandatory divestment for banks and pension funds
  • Adjust regulations for decentralised energy production and storage

Read more about these measures here (in Dutch).

Social Tipping Point Coalition (STPC)

The Social Tipping Point Coalition (STPC) is made up of more than 500 signatures by scientific institutions, professors, creatives, financial experts, health care workers, politicians, NGOs, companies, energy cooperations and citizens' organisations. They call upon the Dutch government to implement social tipping point measures.
