Description
Who: Vevey, Switserland
What: committed to ban all commercial advertising from its public space when current contract ends
When: August 2023; will be implemented January 2025
The Swiss city of Vevey committed to ban all commercial advertising from its public space in 2025 when their current advertising concession will be coming to an end. The city's "mayor" (syndic in Switzerland), Yvan Luccarini, conceded that it was important for the municipality to align their advertising policy with their climate ambition by ensuring that any promotion taking place on the public advertising estate be strictly directed towards cultural, sportive and charitable activities as well as political communication. Besides advertising on privately-owned sites, the city's train station will be exempt from this new policy given that it comes under the authority of the Swiss federal government.
