In Wageningen, The Netherlands, the municipal council adopted a motion by ChristenUnie in February 2023 asking the college to develop a sustainable advertising code. They will also look into reducing advertising within the municipality as well as calculate how much it would cost to no longer allow any advertisements in Wageningen bus shelters. The new advertising code is said to include "principles to reduce and eventually ban advertising for unhealthy food, gambling and fossil fuels, starting in the bus shelters in the bus shelters." The municipality expects to present the new policy to the council by the end of 2024.
